I have cut down on Facebook, but frankly, I’ve never experienced it like that. What Jan seems to be describing is the annual Christmas letter. I find it useful for informing group members of events, for keeping in touch with people who live far away (like my children), and for wishing friends Happy Birthday. Like all things, it can be useful or a curse, depending on how you use it.
Gotta keep in mind, folks are gonna put what they want you to see. That there life is “perfect” and all. But it’s just a fraction of their whole picture. We need FB folks that put up depressing, sad, miserable posts to make us feel better about ourselves. Just like lame “reality” stars. But yeah…it is all stupid.

Who cares where others have traveled to or what their families and houses look like. It’s how I keep in touch with family and friends.

Facebook, as with most things, is exactly what you make of it. Grow up.
