Sadlly the last time a 3rd partty candidate was a viable option there hadn’t yet been a World war.

The biggest problem with any political system is that, like Blanche DuBois, any political system relies primarily on the innate goodness of people… i.e., “the kindness of strangers.” I will consider myself extremely fortunate if the whole expletive deleted thing doesn’t implode before I’m either dead, or too senile to care!

Grokenstein: Is it the same people in 2008 as in 2004? Any specific examples?

Don’t worry about the last time a 3rd party candidate had a chance at the Presidency, remember the first. Senator Stephen Douglas of IL and Vice President John Breckinridge of KY had split the Democratic Party. Much like the party is threatened to be split today. The result was neither could get a majority and Lincoln won the election and became the first Republican president. Im certainly not comparing McCain or anyone else to Lincoln. Just pointing out what will happen with a split Democratic party.
