A section of the Thames has been called “Isis” for many years and has NOTHING to do with the current Muslim problems.

As far as Oxford the Thames has been the Isis for well over a century – named after the Ancient Egyptian goddess of creation (and other things), derived from old name for the river as a whole from source to esturary) from the Middle Ages.

I once had a cat named Isis, who claimed to be a reincarnation of the Egyptian Goddess.

Isn’t the Thames formed by the confluence of the Tame and the Isis? At least that’s what they said back in Shakespeare’s day, if memory serves.
