Sounds more like boy scout ants.
Ants have been referred to in military parlance, especial the soldier ants who bivouac in their relentless marches through the jungles and take over an area that they forage up every tree into every crevasse and bring them back in bite sized chunks.
I’ve heard of ant hills but never ant dales.
