Halloween as you call it is a contraction from āAll Hallowās Eveā (the night before All Saints Day) It has continued to be shortened up, but when I was a child (in the USA) we spelled it Hallowāeen. The apostrophe must have been too difficult for the admen & Hallmark to deal withā¦..
I remember seeing the apostrophe when I was young, but not in every case. I think it was fading out by then. Iām 64. I still use it occasionally when I think to.

The English language is indeed fading away.
We were admonished when pronouncing the word āEducationā with a āgā or ājā sound. Sadly it is now sounded that way in the dictionaries.
