LOL @ Magnus keeping watch from shore. My bullmastiff was cautious around water until one day my brother, my fiancee, and I were walking three bullies. We came to a large and very deep pond, and my brother’s two bullies were splashing about in the water very close to shore, about up to their knees. Mine, for whom my fiancee was holding the leash, was watching and quivering with excitement but scared to go in. Then, suddenly, he looked up at my fiancee, you could almost hear him say “Damn the torpedoes”, and he launched. He went clear over the other two dogs and landed in the water, which was about 8 feet deep at that point. Bullmastiffs don’t float. I will always have the image burned into my brain of him going under water, eyes wide open, looking up at us as he’s going down, probably thinking “Oh sh-t!”, and almost taking my fiancee down with him. we pulled him out, no harm done, but he was a very meek bullmastiff indeed after that, whenever water was involved…
