Back in my waiting tables days, we had orange roughy for a special one night. I was listing the specials for a customer, but when I got to the orange roughy, she couldn’t wrap her mind around it. She kept asking things like, “So does it have an orange sauce?” I kept patiently explaining, that, no, it was just the name of the fish. But she kept on, “So is it citrusy? Is it served with orange slices or zest?” Exasperated, I repeated, “It’s just the name of the fish! Just like rainbow trout isn’t served with rainbows!” She finally got it. :)

Orange Roughy is a name to sell it. Really a ’slime fish’ of some kind.

That’s not a fair way to treat a roughy.

Bucky Katt from Get Fuzzy probably has the perfect recipe for you, Frazz.

Orange roughy was named such in the 1970s, because it’s original name – slimehead – didn’t sound very appetizing.

Never have eaten one. I know some who like to blend raw hamburger with raw egg then drink it.

Instead of an orange roughy smoothie, how about a nice beer milkshake? (Caulfield will recognize the reference.)
