I know that look on Arlo’s face. How many times has my husband said, “Sure, I say something, you don’t listen. But let some stranger on the Internet say the same thing…”

Also reminds me of, say, splitting the lunch check with a couple of friends.

You say something like, “OK, it’s $25, that’s just under $8.50 each, so let’s make it ten bucks each with the tip.”

and the other two whip out their phones/calculators, and wrinkle their brows for several minutes, till one says “Oh, I guess that’s right”

Another viewpoint: It also seems that Janis might be one of those wives who never thinks her husband can be right about anything unless she verifies it.

Or did I just echo Arianne’s comment? If so, sorry. It seems that I didn’t check carefully enough before posting.

A couple of points: 1) Janice has been a phono-phile/neto-phile for some time now. So maybe it’s just become habit. 2) Husbands have a reputation among wives of “always being right.” This upsets wives to no end. It also upsets husbands, also to no end, when they think they’re being challenged on what (they think) they do know. Hence Arlo’s reaction. I.e., “man stuff,” trivia, and etc.

Is that what’s called “mansplaning”?

I have a laconic Manx cat, Sigurd, who, when he speaks, says “Ur.”

I’m like Janis. I am skeptical of anything I hear, or read on the Internet – and comic pages.

My husband adopted a stray cat a couple of weeks ago. At first she didn’t meow, then a few days later she started meowing to me because I talk to her more and last night she started meowing to him.

I have trouble with this claim — if it’s true why are there so many videos out there of cats and kittens mewing at each other?

My oldest cat will definitely meow at other cats who come within his space (about a 3-4 inch radius is all the personal space he claims any more) or are laying on his favorite heating pad. And, without exception, every one of them will give ground to the grumpy, crippled senior.

My cats meow when they want to be picked up. Then they purr while I hold them.

Not true, my cats meow to each other when they’re lonely and looking for the other cat.

I feel for you Arlo! I was once known As a “fount of useless knowledge” relied upon to provide astoundingly accurate facts on random subjects. It was a certain marketable quality that impressed my friends and most importantly to me, wifey! Then came the smartphone, and now there is no need for this particular quality. Fortunately wifey has discovered that I do have other appealing qualities and am worth keeping around.
