What I get is “William Tell Overture” from 1950s “The Lone Ranger”…. even if I hear it on the classical music radio station.

Most shows now have no or almost no theme music. At least we have music to remember.

Because today’s television has nothing to watch.

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,

A tale of a fateful trip.

That started from this tropic port,

Aboard this tiny ship.

There’s a standard piece of brass quintet repertoire, Ewald Quintet, movement III, that sounds almost exactly like “F Troop” at the beginning.

My dad had the video tapes of the early “Bonanza” episodes. The theme song on the pilot did have lyrics and was sung. They dropped the lyric soon afterward.

Come and listen to my story ‘bout a man named Jed/Poor mountaineer, barely kep’ his family fed/Then one day he was shootin’ at some food, when up from the ground come a-bubblin’ crude…

The man has good taste. “We are the best. Forget about the rest. Bonanza!!”

The best of the current themes is MidSummer Murders. The use of the Theremin is genius.

Yer “high-class” if’n you can listen to The William Tell Overture without thinkin’ of the Lone Ranger ! (at the Keesler NCO Club bar, while swigging gin and tonics, swapping jokes with Jerry VanDyke, October, 1959)..((I wonder if he still has my autograph?))

Because the stuff on TV today is garbage.Now get off my lawn!!!
