To be be specific, this marathon included 7 trees and 10 feet of open ground between the 3rd and 4th trees. It was a really tough one, worthy of only the strongest competitors.
I ran cross country in high school (in the early 70’s). While I did manage to letter, I wasn’t particularly fast. As I recall, in most meets they could tell the race was over when I crossed the finish line… all except one, I actually came in just before a team member in that one race. During an invitational meet in Leadville, Colorado I came in so late they were taking down the finish line because they didn’t know anyone was still running (such as it was, but I did finish 8^).

Wouldn’t it have been simpler to say 8 months, 4 weeks, and 5 days?, or even (assuming 4-week months) just 9 months and 5 days?
