This whole thing was supposed to be Sonny’s birthday party, right? And he’s leaving early and unnoticed? Since his Dad gave him a “huge sum of money” and told him to have a good time, there will certainly be some questions asked when his Dad comes back to pick up the kids he took there.
Since Lottie got kicked out of the pool (didn’t she?), I suppose they will both have to wait together for the rest of the kids to come out. What a way to celebrate your birthday!
I think Sonny is a bit of late bloomer, if puberty hasn’t hit yet he would be wishing that if he said to the lads, “I’m going on the slide again” wishes the other kids were saying “me too!”.I was a late bloomer but was lucky in that we moved to a part of the country with lots of Roman Catholics with great big families of kids. It was like getting to be a kids for an extra year or so.Always someone roller skating, playing street-ball, climbing trees or exploring the arroyos and hills.
I was an early bloomer, which means I could an early person for the grave. My hair turned white by the time I was 20. Even so I had been pulled over by the police for, “looking too young behind the wheel” and I have white hair then!

So, are we thinking late bloomer, or just differently oriented? In any case, awkward. Poor Sonny.

I’m seeing Sonny here as being very shy and depressed. Sonny’s earlier comment: “I don’t want my dad to be cool.” comes to mind.

Yes, Sonny seems quite sad or worried about something. What could it be?

Some people are just terribly uncomfortable around crowds, the least thing they want is to be center of attention.
