G’day Jason, DryCula, JFrinstein, Meggsiefan, Ottod, Frank and all Meggsie’s mates.
Comic art at its best - our own Ginger introducing not only our native animals but the comic art of Aussie artists.
‘Beyond the Black Stump’ - http://www.beyondtheblackstump.com.au/ - depicts native animals in typically dry, flat Aussie landscape that, once you have seen it, you will love it and start to understand why Aborigines are so attached to it. Until Ginger appears once again in the leading Victorian (Australian State) newspaper, this strip is the main reason for buying it on a Saturday - in my book anyway.
The significance of the title is that there is an Australian saying that something is either the best or the worst ‘this side of the Black Stump’. It is a whimsical stump that survived a bushfire and is considered a landmark way out there somewhere. Gee, hard to explain, it is sort of so far away that everything is somewhere between it and the person who refers to it. Beyond it is a concept that belongs only to the comic strip where the native fauna inhabitants live deliciously simple, humourous and harmonious lives. Brilliant stuff.
usfellers went all the way back to Oct. 1, love this strip! Thank you! I wonder if there’s an easier way to go back though? I’ve added it to my bookmarked comic sites.
ohhhhhhhhhh I think Ginger got a bonk on the head . I can’t wait to see which of the Aussie creatures arrive next. I sure have some good ideas but will impatiently anticipate

Aussie readers will recognise Bruce and Katie from the famous Australan Outback strip, “Beyond the Black Stump”, written and drawn by Sean Leahy.

I’m not a good enough artist to mimic Gary Clark’s linework I’m afraid- He’s the best in the biz in Australia in my opinion!
