“things” in quotes? I thought there were spooks in her room yesterday. Is there a reason she can’t say, “spooks” to her dad? Religious issues? Ghost discrimination problems? After all:

It’s great when Dad is there to be a comfort. Nice job, John…

This is one of those great “aaah” cartoons. It’s always nice to be somebody’s hero, now and then.

If my sisters and I had told dad there was a monster in the closet, he would not have searched the room and reassured us. He would have told us to stop being silly and get back to bed, where we would huddle under the covers, knowing dad was not going to save us from the monster.

What strip was it where the dad got so tired of looking into the crawl space under the bed that he filled it with concrete?

You’ve succumbed to the now routine use of “there’s (there is)” when you should be using the plural form, “there are.” Elizabeth’s comment (and the use of “there’s” earlier in the week) should have been, “There are things under my bed.” I love your cartoon and follow it faithfully.
