Meh. If my family doesn’t like a particular dish then I just don’t make it. Either do store-bought or let Joe’s Mom take on that item. There’s plenty to do around the holidays, I’m sure Marcy can find a niche somewhere.
My family prefers pumpkin pie. I can make pumpkin pie with less sugar. My sister also does pumpkin bread. I agree with Marcy test the family on pumpkin pie.
Unfortunately a lot of bakers and cooks hold onto their special recipes and never give them to anyone, even their own children, and they are lost when said person dies.

Depending on the spices that you use, sweet potato and pumpkin pie taste a lot alike. Have a family bake off, and see who “wins”.
