It is, of course, quite feasible not only to draw stereoscopic images in a flat medium, but even more importantly, to view them as three-dimensional figures without the aid of any special optical device. So Fry and Lewis could pull this off quite easily if they wanted. [Actually, that sounds like just the sort of thing Stephan Pastis would take a stab at, but I don’t think he ever has.]
