Where did Linus hear about the Great Pumpkin in the first place?

The town that I grew up in claims to be the capital pumpkin of the world, thus all those that abide there believe the Pumpkin is Great. So Linus not being from that area heard that pumpkins were great. Somehow, he has confused that to mean “Great Pumpkin”.

Look back at the October 31 strip. Linus has already cursed the Great Pumpkin when he yelled, “SHOW UP, STUPID!!!”

As a Cubs fan, I say “Just wait until LAST year!”

The Great Pumpkin cannot fail. He can only be failed by his all-too-fallible followers. Perhaps Linus’s own sincerity is compromised by his obviously close study of mainstream religion.

40+ years and no great pumpkin, like he’d start acknowledging now.
