It’s always bugged me to see “locally grown” produce at the farmers market that no way in Hell are grown locally, such as bananas and avocados. I knew one woman who bought Smuckers jams, repacked it in smaller bottles and passed them off as her product at twice the price. Shameless.
I have no problem with people paying whatever it is that they want for such things – but I have problems when they complain about not having enough money or about how I chose to spend mine.
Farmer’s markets are what shopping used to be – a communal event where you ran into people you knew and exchanged news. Now shopping has become a horrible chore that takes you from warehouse to warehouse full of competitive strangers who care only for bargains.
