The way the NFL revenue sharing is set up, I think it impossible for an NFL owner to actually lose money with a team. The now LA Chargers owner, Alex Spanos, and his family has long shown they are happier counting their nickels in the NFL cellar than actually spending anything to produce a championship.
It’s because stadium revenue is not shared that owners want newer stadiums to make them more $$. So there is a motive to produce a good product to sell more seats as it directly pays to that owner. However, I agree that even with poor turnout, they make $.
