Being an Introvert, I am not a fan. I like hanging out with one or two loved ones at a time. Where you spend quality time and have real conversation. With these big events, you have the do small talk, there’s usually much noise, you get stuck with people shoving views at you and you have to be polite back anyway, it’s usually awkward. Then to top it off, you don’t like football? Well too bad, that’s shoved at you all day too. You also don’t really talk to the people who like football cause they are watching the game. They get annoyed d if you try, understandably. You get stuck with awkward small talk in the kitchen with the rest. I will pass ;)
There were only 13 of us at my son’s house. We all get along and avoid politics. It was very nice. Then we went to our ex-son-in-law’s house, just to say hi and spend a few minutes of quality time with our grandkids and their extended family. We enjoyed that visit also, even though there were some there we didn’t know. Again, no politics. Football was on there, and at my son’s when we got back for dessert, but nobody minded. Those who didn’t care for it, just didn’t watch. Maybe next year we will dine with a different group.

it would be nice if we came across the titular character’s extended family: grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins

Family, friends and food can be taken for granted until one experiences life without them.
