My “favorite” thing about the illegal celebration penalty is that it’s the same penalty–15 yards–that you get for grabbing a facemask and twisting a player’s head past his shoulder or launching yourself like a missile at a player who has no idea you’re coming. Yeah, they seem equally dangerous.
Stupid rule, whether in pro or college. Let the players celebrate, that’s what the fans want to see. Nothing is duller than watching a player score, politely hand the ball to the ref, and then trot back to the bench. Let them spike it, wave to the crowd, do the shuffle, or pull a Sharpie out of their sock and autograph the ball before handing it to a fan.
