We hadn’t been doing much of this since the kid left. My wife just hadn’t had much Christmas as a child and didn’t see the point. But big Christmas was about the only relatively unsullied part of my childhood, and as I get older, I begin to long for a real tree, with lights, a dusting of snow, and that tinsel that gets everywhere. So I’m sort of weaning her into it by setting something up while she’s away for the day. It’s not the full Santa yet. Couldn’t work out a place for a tree. But she likes it okay. I’ll plan ahead next year.
I love the healthy and loving marriage they have. The strip does an amazing job of showing what real long-term love looks like—better than most TV shows or movies!

I’m dense this morning… what is the thing about his year or hers?

I think we’re seeing him looking into both piles in the attic, trying to remember…
“did we put up ‘my’ stuff last year, or ‘hers’ ?” …
before he asks.
I’m guessing, from a quick look, that he loves the whimsical stuff… the snowmen, Santas, toys and reindeer…
though she finds it a bit childish….
and she prefers the more “grown-up” decorations…
the pretty wreaths, and candles and holly.
You know… boring.
Instead of arguing, they take turns.

A great idea! My wife has never given me the opportunity to do the Christmas tree or decorations.

Santa seems a little unsure in panel one, but looks very happy with this year’s plan in panel four.
