I think weā€™re seeing him looking into both piles in the attic, trying to rememberā€¦

    ā€œdid we put up ā€˜myā€™ stuff last year, or ā€˜hersā€™ ?ā€ ā€¦

    before he asks.

    Ā

Iā€™m guessing, from a quick look, that he loves the whimsical stuffā€¦ the snowmen, Santas, toys and reindeerā€¦

though she finds it a bit childishā€¦.

and she prefers the more ā€œgrown-upā€ decorationsā€¦

the pretty wreaths, and candles and holly.

    You knowā€¦ boring.

    Ā

Instead of arguing, they take turns.

A great idea! My wife has never given me the opportunity to do the Christmas tree or decorations.

Santa seems a little unsure in panel one, but looks very happy with this yearā€™s plan in panel four.

We hadnā€™t been doing much of this since the kid left. My wife just hadnā€™t had much Christmas as a child and didnā€™t see the point. But big Christmas was about the only relatively unsullied part of my childhood, and as I get older, I begin to long for a real tree, with lights, a dusting of snow, and that tinsel that gets everywhere. So Iā€™m sort of weaning her into it by setting something up while sheā€™s away for the day. Itā€™s not the full Santa yet. Couldnā€™t work out a place for a tree. But she likes it okay. Iā€™ll plan ahead next year.

I love the healthy and loving marriage they have. The strip does an amazing job of showing what real long-term love looks likeā€”better than most TV shows or movies!
