One of the oddities I learned during my time in Japan was the belief that putting plum jam in your navel is supposed to cure you of various minor ailments. My impression was that most contemporary Japanese don’t necessarily believe in the old folk remedies until they get desperate. They often asked about any old Cherokee cures and my sister told people that honey relieves foreskin distress, mostly I suspect just to see if anyone would try it. It does make for a sticky situation when you have a full bladder.

Sluggo and Nancy are ready to jam.

I always thought that “Jam Sessions” just happened… no planning or announcements, and certainly no posters, for this kind of get-together…

So they used the word “jam” in 1929? Interesting.
