What was the whole deal with cod liver oil? From all the toons and jokes about it, it was a common thing fed to kids and they all hated it, but why?

they couldn’t have come up for a better plan to get Nancy to take her cod liver oil.

I used to get a large spoonful of cod liver oil when I didn’t eat my veggies.

Beware of excess Vitamin A, guys!

Blech! I’ve had cod liver oil before… It was one of the worst things I ever tasted!

In the 50’s I had to take cod liver oil in an emulsion form. Talk about nasty!!!! UGH!!!

Can’t understand cod liver oil? How many folks these days take fish oil capsules?
