This whole series featuring Aunt Rochelle makes me feel very sad. I do not know if she has been featured before but there are many things that disturb and sadden me:
1) Aunt Rochelle appears very different from her brother or brother-in-law. Aunt Rochelle looks different, however, in ways that seem purposefully unpleasant and/or unkind. I know this can be real in terms of families… but it just seems sad because of how her brother and B-I-L are drawn in comparison. She seems more of a caricature and less a character.
2) I feel a lot of sadness for Aunt Rochelle’s backstory as told the last few days as well.
After my earlier comment about Aunt Rochelle, I decided to go back to the beginning of the comic (at least as posted here by GoComics). As a relative newcomer to the comic (perhaps two months), it was interesting and revealing to see how the drawing style has changed in the last few years. Not so much for Aunt Rochelle, but for the main characters.
I really like how the main characters have changed somewhat to become MORE distinctive. Both parents are more vividly drawn as are AJ & Magnus. The earliest drawings are great, do not get me wrong, but I am very happy with how they have changed in the last few years to become even better! The boy initially had a sort of “Calvin” look going on, but now has become more distinctly unique and both parents are drawn more strongly and distinctly as well.

Wow, suddenly all the jokes about her appearance and mentality aren’t so funny anymore.
