Imagine how the Republicans would react if the Christian conservatives won the “war on Christmas” issue and it became a solemn religious holiday with no emphasis on gift giving.
I was reflecting the other day that we don’t so much “celebrate the holidays” anymore. It’s more a compulsive footrace to touch all the cultural milestones, most aptly defined by the Hallmark Christmas movie channel, mowing down sightlessly any and all objects, be they warm and breathing or not, that get between us and our “holiday joy.” Reminds me of the scene in “Groundhog Day” where Bill Murray’s character has a perfect day and spends the succeeding iterations trying to artificially recreate it. Painful to watch.
President Trump has promised to pass a law requiring everyone to say “Merry Christmas” rather than “Happy Holidays.” Isn’t it grand to live in a country where the president can order people how to talk.

There’s actually a “Giving Tuesday” in there (today,BTW) but that probably didn’t register on Henry.
