Before we were married, my husband had a cat, Tiki. Because they were living with my FIL, Tiki was tree-trained, using a water bottle. After we got married, our first apartment was too small for a tree, but we got a second cat, Rico. We finally moved to an apartment where we could put up a tree. Rico, who HATES change, hid while we decorated. When we were done, he came out to cautiously check it out. We sat nearby, water bottle in hand. Rico slowly crept up to the tree, s-l-o-w-l-y stretched a paw to touch a low-hanging ornament…when WHAM Tiki came out of nowhere and hit Rico upside the head! Rico rolled over, shook himself, reached for the ornament again…WHAM Tiki hit him again. That was the last time Rico even tried to touch the tree (although they would both sleep under it).

I’m lucky. My cat totally ignores my tree.
