Boy: Ah, I've finally got it in my hands. "Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth". Laura: Pretty exciting. Boy: Smell that fresh paper, hear the spine crack. Ah, books. Is there anything they can't do? Laura: I wish my kids cared as much about the written word as you. Boy: I shall finish this before the sun breaks anew on the horizon. Laura: You could give my husband a few pointers on the spoken word, too.

That’s because it’s a cartoon strip. Real people don’t act that way. Unfortunately.

Red Vines, what can’t they do. Did anyone get the Very Potter Musical reference there?

I love this kid. Some GoComics people could use a few pointers on English too.

The first chapter of Italo Calvino’s “If On a Winter’s Night a Traveller” describes perfectly the joy of heading down to the bookstore to buy the new book by Italo Calvino, taking it home, getting a refreshing beverage, putting your feet up, announcing “Do not disturb me! I’m about to read the new book by Italo Calvino!”, opening the book to the first chapter, and reading “If on a winter’s night a traveller…”
A truly marvelous book about the joys (and frustrations) of reading books…

Amen. That’s one of my favorite books. I knew nothing about it. Bought it off the shelf because I liked the title. The book’s amazing.

I thought this “Wimpy Kid” thing was a cartoonist invention but I actually saw this stuff in Barnes & Noble yesterday.

My kids read a couple of the books but didn’t really care for them.

Awww, he’s hugging the book! I do that on account of the fact that I’m a nerd (and geek) too.
