Where Andy lives, there are old British institutions called working men’s clubs (yes, I know…) that sell very cheap beer at less than a pound a pint. The average cost of a beer in a pub these days is £2.70 in the North of England, £3 plus in the south. (NB - if the place calls itself a “wine bar”, or a “bar” and not a pub, this is a licence for adding a pound to the price. Avoid).
so seven quid van buy seven pints of Federation and still leave enough for a packet of crisps….
Soup is vegetables in water, more of a lunch or evening meal or appetizer. Beer is grains in water, so it can be a cereal breakfast food or good for any meal where you want to get a lot of fiber.

Hey Lew, I love barley soup. hic

You’re converting the wrong way… one pound is about $1.61 so the soup would be a little over eleven dollars.

For $11 Andy can get a few pints and 5 games of pool… Much better.

Three 20 oz mugs of a good porter are about $14. I can make soup at home for pennies a bowl. Gotta have your priorities straight.

For $11, that better be the best soup he’s ever eaten.
(Better to opt for the beer.)
