Good morning, Grog. Never thought I would see the day when I would not want to fly–but this is it. Did you read the news article about the search of an 8 year old?? His parents remarked how they have taught him that NO ONE but his parents or doctor should touch him–and then the child was singled out for a pat down….this is a sad, sad day in our country.
When my 97 year old mom was going to visit my brother in Florida, I was allowed to accompany her to the gate because she was in a wheelchair. She was required to remove her shoes, etc.(so was I) which was not a problem. The problem came when the TSA person (a woman) said “Well now, old lady, you can put your shoes back on” I was astounded. My mom, of course, could not put her shoes on in the first place. After an argument, if you can imagine that, I was allowed to put her shoes on for her. I don’t mind compliance with the rules to keep us safe but can some of you please get some manners? Sometimes you are dealing with very old people. My mom had no problem with removing her shoes, being frisked, putting her bags through the x-ray, etc. She did, however, feel that the screener had no manners, which is what upset her. She demanded good manners from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren so she did not think well of these mannerless folk. I understand they have a difficult job. We complied with everything they asked for and expected to be treated as human beings, at the very least.
To submachine: I did not see the original article about the 8 year old. I think if my 8 year old would be subject to frisk or pat down he/she should be allowed to sit on my lap (after I had been frisked, of course) so that he/she would feel safe. I don’t like the whole thing but realize it has become necessary in this day and age. I would not want my child to be alone being frisked. I don’t trust anyone that much.
NO ONE, whether an 8 year old child or an adult arabic man, should EVER be forced to be frisked before they can get on an air plane. The only people who should ever need to be frisked are ones who are known dangers (eg- prisoner being extradited).
The current state of air port “security” is down-right ridiculous.
Go to Israel. They don’t pat everyone down or frisk them. Very few are asked to remove their shoes but they have a better security record than any North American airport.
Get your Bible, and your phobias OUT of my government. It is NOT welcomed in the land of the free. Not unless you give me a full refund for the promise that you sold me.

The whole purpose of the Second Amendment is to keep the GOVERNMENT in line.
I guess it may be about time to water the Tree of Liberty again…

Remember… “these people” are representing the American gov’t. The airlines aren’t requiring these gross violations of the 4th amendment.
