Gabby Hayes?

At least it didn’t laugh at him.

An internet-connected (and thus hackable) device that listens 24/7. What could go wrong? I could understand this craze better if the benefits weren’t so utterly marginal compared to the risks.

I have Alexa on my Fire TV. It only “listens” when I hold down the microphone button on the remote.

I just had this very type of question and I don’t have an Alexa. Wikipedia was able to tell me that the guy I was thinking of was Dave Willock. (And the woman whose name I forgot while I was unsuccessfully trying to think of Dave was Jean Porter.)

Probably Gabby Hayes. He was in lot of them.

I think I remember seeing Gabby Hayes on a talk show once where he told the story of how he got his distinctive gravely voice. As a child he was running with something (I can’t remember if it was scissors or a stick, one of those things your mother always tells you not to run or play with) and he fell and stuck the thing through his throat.

My guess would be Arthur Hunnicut, who played Bull in El Dorado….
