Okay, my state recently “legalised” recreational marijuana. The pols here are crowing about the boost in tax revenue & are looking for ways to spend it.
How about this: reparations to all the people who were convicted & imprisoned for marijuana possession? Include any of their family members who suffered because of these convictions.
Our state legalized medical cannabis and made a complete hash out of it (no pun intended). There are only a small handful of dispensaries in the entire state open only a limited number of hours. They are very much overpriced with taxes through the roof. You have to pay several hundred dollars a year just to get a cannabis card authorizing use. The list of conditions approved for cannabis use is minuscule and laughable at what it excludes.
Meanwhile, the gooberment officials are complaining that “no one is using the dispensaries” (bald-faced lie) and the actual income to the state is far less than projections (well, duh!). They are calling the program a failure and propose ending it.
Now why are they reluctant to legalize hemp? Hemp has very little active THC and should never have been made illegal unless there was an ulterior motive.

Prohibition is proven to cause no social harm, and to entirely remove all social harm from the thing prohibited! +

This is not a progressive state.
