I had a mix I called a shepherdox. The mom was a German shepherd (a dog!) and the pop a dachshund. He sniffed and fell in love. I called the progeny Falstaff, which, in my mind, was an homage to Shakespeare. The lady with whom he had to go live (I was a grad student gone too many hours—not fair to the dog) had a different take. She loved that I had named him that because, given his elongated shape, he reminded her of a long drink of beer!
