When Mark Twain was traveling in Switzerland, he read that glaciers moved. For the return trip, he had his guides put his chair in the middle of the glacier and the luggage, which could travel slower, near the shore. After a few hours he realized this glacier must have run aground. While he had his support team trying to push off the glacier with long sticks, he read that glaciers moved a few inches a year and gave up in disgust. He realized that they needed to get some American railroad men on the case to have this thing running to a schedule. “Innocents Abroad”
Skippy seems to have the same view of the New Jersey Palisades that I do. We’ve seen many odd things floatin’ sailin’ or motorin’ down the Hudson, but never a solitary chunk of glacier. Maybe an iceman at the shore lost control of his tongs.
