I work at the IRS doing business taxes. Send mail certified. That is the only proof they take that you sent it in time. If it disappears you can send it in again with a copy of the certify and it will be considered timely. Otherwise, penalties an interest can apply.

I send anything for the IRS Certified Mail. That little date stamp saved a $14,000 income averaging refund.

Back when I still mailed in my tax returns, I used a postal scale to tell me how many stamps I needed.

I only put one stamp on last years and it came back turned out to be good I made a mistake that would have cost me a thousand dollars
