As if the second thru eleventh times weren’t enough?

Ah yes Love Story, purveyor of the great lie of the 70s: “Love means never having to say your sorry.” Maybe that’s why divorce really took off in the seventies; all the viewers decided that because they were “in love” they could do whatever they wanted and never apologise or make it right.

News, people: if you really love someone, you should be more aware of how your behaviour affects them, not less, and be more willing to say you’re sorry if you need to—and mean it. And act accordingly.

So Woodstock is crying over the money and time he’ll never get back?

Wait’ll he sees “Avengers: Infinity War”!

It still gets him every time!

The film debut of Tommy Lee Jones, so it had that going for it. And Ali McGraw was cuter than a bug.

Nowadays Woodstock would be camping on line to see Solo: A Star Wars Story.

My girlfriend at the time loved that movie. I hated it. Another movie that I couldn’t stand: the execrable “Terms of Endearment.” Good grief, what a bunch of schlock that thing was.

I remember that movie. I was in High School and my girlfriend wanted to see it. She also liked Elvis.

I said I was sorry! You have to say it with meaning.

A lot of stuff came out in the 70s with the pop psychology of the time. Folks were nuts back then. Course, not a lot has changed.

Where do I begin?

Actually read the book. It sucked as badly as the movie.

I couldn’t tell if he’s sad or practically bored.

Remember that “deep truth” uttered by the Wizard of Oz to the Tin Man? “It’s not how much you love but how much you are loved by others.” Was that “nugget of nothing” ever thought to be a wise statement? Even as a kid watching I thought: “WTF?”(Fudge; I was only 8)…

Now send him to see “The Summer of ’42” and then “The Sterile Cuckoo” to complete the trifecta…

During the first run of “Love Story,” I hadn’t seen so many people leaving a theater in tears since"Bambi" (“Man is in the forest”) or “Old Yeller” (“He’s my dog, Ma. I’ll do it”). Yes, I know – I’m of the elderly persuasion. (But “Old Yeller” still gets to me.)

I loved that movie when it came out. Then watching it about 40 years later I realized it is really a piece of trash!

I’ve never seen “Love Story”, but Ali McGraw intrigued me. She did a nude scene in another movie, for one thing.

I will confess, and I have never revealed it to anyone in decades: I always imagine Ali McGraw’s nickname was “Quick-Draw”.

If he keeps getting sad why does he keep watching it?
