Amusing stuff. He is absolutely sending a message to Mueller and others.
Lest we forget, Libby was convicted for making conflicting statements during long separated interviews with investigators.
Lest we forget, Libby was not initially interviewed until AFTER Fitzgerald had a) discovered that no crime had actually been committed, and b) discovered the identity of the actual source of the Novak story.
We have a serious problem with our Special Counsel rules. The same problem that persuaded Congress to allow the Special Prosecutor law to sunset. For some reason, probably human vanity, once a “Special” is appointed they seem to feel the need to find a crime, ANY CRIME, even if it has nothing to do with their original marching orders.
The Plame investigation should have been shut down the moment Fitzgerald realized that she had been back “in-country” long enough to have satisfied the legal requirements covering non-disclosure. That revelation came withing weeks of the opening of the investigation.
Mueller and company do not “need” any of this. They follow the clues not idle talk. There are no leaks either unlike the Whitehouse which is a sieve.
“Special Councils” are temporary, hence their special status. They are formed when something needs investigation. And if they uncover other crimes that schmoes their purview too. Or do you want ones that ignore all other facts about crimes to be rigid blinkered robots? Now that would be criminal negligence institutionalized.
Libby couldn’t reconcile the contradictions. He was seen as lying. Though justice was no served for Libby by presidential interference.
Back “in country” is irrelevant to Plame’s use as a CIA agent, up until she was exposed. She was still an active agent. Amazing you missed all that.
At the request of NIGHT-GAUNT49 I will now give the full parody—remember, it’s HIS fault! And yes I KNOW most people couldn’t find Dick Cheney on a map (or pick him out of a police lineup) , and it WAS years ago, but here we go. (Disclaimer: I originally wrote this while taking a shower and singing a Mad Magazine parody of “The Battle Hymn” to myself, and somehow or other I wrote the Cheney thing before the water got cold!)
Mine eyes have seen the tragedy of the President for Vice
His only major talent? Squashing freedoms in a trice
Turning journalistic watchdogs into squealing little mice
The way he carries on!
Glory, glory, you can’t reach him
Glory, glory, you can’t teach him
Best to out-and-out impeach him
The way he carries on!
His task-force energetic filled with secrecy galore
His spies on every telephone and stationed by each door
He’s trying to out-source the Bill of Rights to Bangalore
The way he carries on!
Glory, glory, you can’t reach him
Glory, glory, you can’t teach him
Best to out-and-out impeach him
The way he carries on!
And then there’s Scooter Libby who was told by Vice to lie
(But what’s a little perjury when crooks see eye to eye?)
If Don Juan makes it a practice to pardon, in advance, all of the accused in a position to testify against him, he will certainly create a constitutional crisis. The President’s power to pardon is absolute. It cannot be overruled or legally challenged. But it will be blatant, unapologetic obstruction of justice. Any fool will be able to see it.
I will also argue that following the money is very clearly related to the purpose of the investigation. Mueller’s job is to investigate Russian interference in a presidential election. If Don Juan’s money comes from Russia, doesn’t that seem like it would be a relevant fact?

Years ago I wrote “The Battle Hymn of the Cheney” and I’ll just toss out a relevant verse:
And then there’s Scooter Libby, who was told by Vice to lie
But what’s a little perjury when crooks see eye to eye?
Were Nixon here it’s very clear that even he would sigh
The way he carries on!

BTW, it’s really refreshing that we will now be able to add one more convicted perjurer to those who practice law.
