Abby: You look bummed, Jack. Jack: My sister's pet, Mr. Barley, died. Abby: Her pet gerbil? Jack: No, the gerbil's okay. Mr. Barley was the hamster. Abby: How many pets do you guys have? Jack: Well, there's the gerbil, a guinea pig, a rabbit, 3 turtles, a skunk, a dumb cat, a hamster--oh--scratch that... Anyway, Katie's going to be really upset. She's on her way home from a play date and I don't want to be in the house when she finds out. Deanna: Katie, I'm sorry but something's happened to Mr. barley. He's gone to pet heaven. Katie: Is he coming back? Deanna: I'm afraid not, sweetie. Katie: Mr. Barley... wwaaaaaahh... sob... sniff... now, which one is he?

At least it is being re-run. It could have just died and disappeared. Hopefully, this strip will continue to the end and not loop back early (like The Norm did).

and some of us read (and comment) only at irregular intervals. this strip was, and is, appreciated by many more folks than those who jot down their notions.

and there are some of us who are clueless about sports and read it and “Tank McNamera” so that we can pretend when sports talk comes up in casual conversation; better than the sports page or actually watching games.
