Poor Marm. You’d think that after all this time, his family would realize that fireworks are a dog’s worst nightmare because their hearing is so sensitive that the loud BOOMS hurt their ears!
Please keep your dogs away from fireworks and out of the sun. Think of what they need and what’s the best for them. They love you and rely on you to take care of them. Prove how much you love them in return by always doing what’s right by them.
According to a report released by PetAmberAlert.com, “animal control officials across the country see a 30-60% increase in lost pets each year between July 4th and 6th.”
This time of year always makes me sad because people lose their dogs and don’t take precautions. Marmaduke has a good home and his people love him and he always gets back. But if you see a stray, help them, please.
My family had a large outdoor dog that we only chained on the 4th of July. He was a big, dumb lovable mutt that was terrified of fireworks, thunderstorms and other loud noises. (My sister found him the day after the 4th when he was a puppy.) Always knew a storm was coming as he would try to slip into the house when someone opened the door. And a struggle to put back outside. Would have loved to let him stay in the house until the noise had passed, but eight people in a four room house didn’t leave much room for a close to Marmaduke size dog.)
Please keep your dogs safe and inside the house during the fireworks shows. The noise can be painful for humans, just imagine how much worse the noise and flash-bangs are for them! It is more terrifying for them because they don’t know what’s going on. Keep them in, keep them comfortable, keep them safe!

Even on Xanax my dog is worse than Marm. We stay home and stay indoors and try to ride out the illegal fireworks the neighbors light off.
