He needs to realize that videotapes deteriorate in a short time. Just had the Betamax and VHS tapes of my home movies (my kids) transferred to DVD thru Costco. Some were so bad Costco refused to transfer them and even the “good” ones, were horrible quality. Meanwhile, I transferred 60 year old FILM to DVD and that was much, much better, though twice as old as the tapes. Bad idea Ben. Vinyl will last a millennium. Not tapes. No comeback coming.
Honestly, as an eBay seller, I keep an eye out for good VHS tapes and player/recorders. Some people still like them and use them, they have large libraries of tapes that they take good care of, and they don’t want to change formats. I am MORE than happy to help them.

You had to give him that idea. I hope 8-tracks NEVER come back! They were awful.

My Mom stockpiled VCR’s in case they stopped manufacturing them. She had four in her stash when she passed on.
