My mother used to say the same thing to me, but I couldn’t WAIT for them to grow out of babyhood and at least into middle-childhood so they could do more for themselves. Now as a grandmother, I wish I had cherished the babyhood, but that’s what grandchildren are for.
My mom was not the hugging type. I couldn’t remember a hug during childhood. But, once, when I was 29, she gave me a hug upon returning home after 6 months away. I was stunned. Good, but stunned. She never hugged me again. But, mom showed her love in other ways, but outward expression was not her way.

Hugging is a fine way of showing care for someone. Not doing it at all shows someone who was raised in a cold and distant family member.

Would Elly worry about Michael/Lizzie if one or both of them got overweight?
