Luxuries aren’t always so luxurious, Phil’s nephew.

We saw this theme last year and once again, Mike marks the sign of a great house as one that has an indoor pool. The inside joke is that at the time in 1989, Lynn Johnston lived in a house that had an indoor pool.

I have to wonder why anyone would want an indoor pool in a place that was cold most of the year. That is, unless you want to pay fairly high rates to keep the house really warm. (Most houses in the northern part of the US are affected by the outdoor temps; I would figure the same would be true of Canada…)

Pools, in general, are liability! Houses with pools are harder to sell and you have to build a security. Fence to keep the kids out! Shall I go on?

Growing up we had friends that had an inside pool. It was a lot of fun going to their house any time of the year and getting to play in the pool. It could be inches of snow outside, and we got to enjoy it… I would love to have one today…

Pools and trampolines are a liability, an "attractive nuisance’’. You have to buy additional insurance. I cringe when I see a trampoline in the front or side yard. Now trampolines won’t be sold without a safety net, but you still need to install it. I knew a kid who broke his neck when he was 8 on a trampoline, and a friend whose brother died when he dove in a pool.

The YMCA three miles from me has an indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna. The cost of a membership is a whole lot less than trying to get those things on your own. Put it that way, I don’t mind sharing.

Indoor pools stink! The room reeks of chlorine! No thanks.

All depends upon what the buyer wants. Re IT’S PAID FOR - bumper sticker seen on an old car.

Have Elly & John paid off the house already? Cause I think they bought the house sometime after Michael was born, so they paid off a house in approximately 10 years while supporting 2 kids largely on one paycheck for at least half that time. Quite an accomplishment.
