Tricky word-play to try. The word for ‘day’ should be ‘dies,’ which looks exactly like a very different English word, and it would spoil the effect. It only becomes ‘diem’ in object form, when modified by the verb. ‘Crappy,’ of course, isn’t a verb (anymore than it’s Latin.)
But it’s a cartoon gag, so it gets away with it because it wouldn’t work if it were correct…
