I’m curious to see what’s going to follow up on the Russians winning the 2018 bid today(not so curious about Qatar’s winning the bid for 2022). Methinks the papers in the morrow here will be crying foul. meh

This is about what you call football and we call soccer?

Wow, security for a million or more fans and visitors?

Hope it is on TV for me!

Well, the English actually coined the word “soccer” in the 1st place so I don’t quite understand their “purist” gripe about everyone else using it. South Africans, Australians, New Zealanders and others all use it too. The only difference between the US using it and the other countries is that in the US football is use for a game mainly played with your hands (:-| ) so soccer is the only term for football/soccer whereas in the other countries soccer & football can be used interchangeably.

yeah I never understood why american football is called “football.” I maintain “pansified rugby” is a better name

^^ Yet rugby turns out to be safer sport because of its regulations despite American football having so much protective equipment for the player. Instead of debating how safe the bloody helmet is, perhaps look at the tackling rules? Meh, what do I care, I play neither nor am I that interested in either.

^ For an historical record, a little out of date ”This past World cup, that took place in the United States…”. Erm, that was back in ‘94.
