This may be a reference to a Sesame Street segment where that’s exactly how Ernie catches fish, much to Bert’s dismay.
I have bought every kind of lure that exists. Without much luck in putting fish on the end of the line. All I had to do was call them?
Poor Red. All those fish and not one bite? I love the way Rover leans over Red’s shoulder. So cute!
I’ve seen that happen: fish hanging around almost beneath your feet, but not interested in any bait you throw at them. Netting them is not sportsmanlike-and usually not legal.
