Had this happen in a Baskin Robbins. A toddler ran up and grabbed my wife’s leg for reassurance, then looked up and backed off in shock. His mom was close by, also with very light-skinned legs and white shorts.
That happened to me once. My mother stopped to listen to Santa Claus give a short speech. I must have turned my head as I walked past and ended up following the wrong woman.
When I was a kid I got lost every time we went to the zoo. OK, so my parents were corralling four of us, but I got really good about asking an adult for help.
My mom a few years ago took me to a Target and we were at the cashier. I followed another woman thinking my mom was done, and it was only until after I was out of the store that I looked up and saw it was the wrong woman. My mom was searching all over the store for me while I was standing at our car trying to spot her outside.
Apparently Mom never worried about me wandering off, I was a bit of a limpet. My younger sister and brother would wander off and talk to anyone!
Our oldest Perth niece (we say Perth or America so we don’t get ’em confused) would cling to me when we were out at the shops, holding my hand even as a 14 year old :)
This. Ever occurred to me back in the first-run days, but why a skirt? The only women I know who wear skirts all the time (now and back then) did so for some religious reason.

Pretty sure only zookeepers can feed the animals in most zoos. (Although the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle had a giraffe feeding time, IIRC.)

My dog did the same thing once. She jumped through the window of a car that was the same color. The guy in the driver seat was quite surprised.

That woman should start counting her blessings that she isn’t his mother.

I did that once as a kid at home when I ran over to my mom and found out it was the neighbor. They had been talking and I ran to the wrong one. :)

Mom is running away as fast as possible – if she has any sense.

Ha! At least that lady didn’t yell “I’m not your mom” like Rosalyn did months ago…https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/2018/2/24
