@Eldo^ THose are just the first ten letters of the Hebrew alphabet. The first one is called Aleph and when you see it in detail, it doesn’t look that much like a Latin ‘X’ (and, of course, the Greek X is a chi, which is where Xmas comes from). The six (Vav) looks like the Latin ‘I’ and the four (Dalet) looks like a ‘7’.

Ifant - they got it from the Etruscans, who derived it from their alphabet. The Hebrew numerals for one through ten are:
א ,ב ,ג ,ד,ה ,ו ,ז ,ח ,ט ,י
Of course, you have to remember to read them right to left, not left to right.
