Nowadays, it’s high-speed Internet which doesn’t hog the telephone connection and there’s Facebook Messenger.

My first online was with a C128 on Q-Link. Those were the days.. $9.95/month and 6 cents a minute on top of that! And of course we got one full hour a month free @@

One time my brother and I wrestled the phone away from our sister after she’d been on one call for four hours.

And remember when a call would come in on the same line, you might actually lose your internet connection. Paige would just diiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeee if that happened.

That was the trouble with chat windows. You would greet your friend, ask what they were up to, (Which was surfing the internet, same as you,) then it was just an awkward exchange until you one of you went. “Well, see you later!”

When I bought a house, I had the phone company put in a data line for the internet.
