In the original novel (1897), vampires aren’t hurt by sunlight. They’re weakened and lose their powers between sunrise and sunset, but sunlight itself won’t destroy them. The idea that sunlight will destroy vampires seems to come from Nosferatu (1922), but it’s since become accepted into our folklore.
Couldn’t have Dracula turned himself to a bat… Unless he shrunk and instead of breaking free, his whole body is crushed by the truck tire instead… But hey, saves him some time from being evaporated by the sun…
