I once came out onto my patio the same morning a pair of birds had decided to start work on a nest right about the sliding door. Instead of either riding out the interruption or taking off for parts unknown, they both flew about twenty feet away, found another spot to perch, and then the male proceeded to bitch at me for as long as I remained in sight.
The squirrels & chipmunks on the hill behind our building know better; they wait patiently UNDER the feeder and the birds kick off a bunch for them while they eat. Everybody’s happy.
I loath squirrels! Specially after they killed my $60 bird feeder! This was in Maryland in the 90’s that’s why the price looks low. I bought a feeder that held thistle seeds and my only visitors were my beloved chickadees :)
….that said, I found a baby squirrel in a nest in our oil drum bbq. Soft-hearted me called the local wildlife rescue to come get it sigh

I wish my birds did that. I have a heck of a time keeping my squirrels out of my bird feeders.
