Poncho: Boomer taught me the hangdog-expression trick, but it feels wrong to con my way out of trouble. I was bad, so I should face the music. Chazz: Poncho! There you are! Where have you been?? Poncho: Chazz, I'm… really sorry, I… Chazz: Aww, buddy, it's okay… Poncho: No, wait! I didn't mean to hangdog! It slipped out on its own!

KREOLE I am wondering about how poncho reacts about Carmon’s cats also. That should be fun.

Poncho, can you teach me that expression?
COWBOY7 almost 14 years ago
It’s instinctive, Poncho. Chazz will figure it out in the end.

Wasn’t Poncho’s reaction to Carmen and her cats already covered in “All Dogs Naturally Know How To Swim”?

And all I have to do is act naturally………….

I knew Chazz would be more thrilled than angry to see Poncho. And yes, that look just comes as part of the standard package in every breed.

Hopefully they can start to bond now rather than Poncho focusing on the previously owned dog.

I can hear “Reunited” by Peaches & Herb playing now.

ehe_shaoge’s right, kreole. If Gilligan sticks to his original continuity, Poncho desn’t even meet Carmen until after Chazz marries her. We might see Chazz’s first encounter with Carmen, and I can imagine his efforts at keeping their relationship hidden from Poncho could provide a lot of good strips, but I suspect that the wedding itself will mark the end of the “Poncho: Year One” strips. Maybe there’ll be a little overlap, but I wouldn’t count on it.
Pretty soon we should get to the introduction of Mitzi, though. Poncho knew her before he and Chazz moved out of the apartment and into Carmen’s house.

Actually, I just thought of something. Closing the “prequel” to Pooch Cafe-proper with Chazz and Carmen’s wedding would make sense structurally, but since this is “Poncho: Year One” it also makes sense to end it with his first birthday. I can easily see Poncho watching the preparations for a big party and imagining that Chazz is throwing him a surprise birthday party, but it turns out that Chazz is planning his wedding reception and has completely forgetten Poncho’s birthday. This isn’t a prediction, of course, but if that’s what actually happens, remember: You read it here first.

Why not just watch the present, and enjoy the future when it arrives?
